Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
StateGuess.com ("StateGuess," "we," or "us") is an independent daily U.S. geography game site. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. By using StateGuess, you agree to this policy.
Who we are
StateGuess is operated as an independent website at stateguess.com. We are not affiliated with any U.S. government agency, school district, or testing organization. For questions about this policy, contact us at hello@stateguess.com or through our contact page.
Information we collect
We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
- Local game data stored in your browser, such as scores, streaks, recent results, and practice preferences.
- Technical and usage data, such as pages visited, browser type, device type, approximate region, referring URL, and error logs.
- Cookie and advertising identifiers when analytics or advertising tools are enabled.
- Information you send us, such as your email address and message content when you contact us.
We do not require an account to play the core games, and we do not ask for your name, address, or payment details to use the free features on the site.
Local storage in your browser
Some game progress, mastery stats, theme preference, and lightweight analytics events may be stored locally using browser storage such as localStorage. This data stays on your device unless a future feature clearly tells you otherwise. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, though doing so may reset local progress.
Analytics
We may use privacy-conscious analytics and server logs to understand traffic patterns, page performance, errors, and aggregate game usage. Analytics help us decide which pages to improve and which game modes are useful. Where possible, we prefer aggregated or de-identified reporting rather than building individual user profiles.
Advertising and Google AdSense
StateGuess may display ads to support the free site. We may use Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service provided by Google LLC. Google and its partners may use cookies, mobile advertising identifiers, and similar technologies to:
- serve ads on StateGuess and other sites you visit;
- measure ad performance and limit how often you see an ad;
- show personalized ads where permitted by law.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to StateGuess and/or other sites on the Internet. You can learn more about how Google uses data at Google's partner sites policy.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info for industry opt-out tools in the United States.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics, and advertising. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site features or ad relevance.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- operate, maintain, and improve StateGuess;
- remember local game progress and preferences;
- measure traffic, performance, and product quality;
- display and measure advertising;
- respond to support requests and fix reported data issues;
- protect the site from abuse, fraud, and security problems.
Legal bases and your choices
Where required by law, we rely on legitimate interests, consent, or other lawful grounds to process information. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your information, or to object to some uses such as personalized advertising.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. If you want to make a privacy request, email hello@stateguess.com with enough detail for us to verify and respond.
Children's privacy
StateGuess is a general-audience game and geography reference site. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Data retention and security
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. Local browser data remains on your device until you clear it. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the site, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Third-party links and services
StateGuess may link to third-party sites or services, including advertising and analytics providers. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one. We encourage you to review the policies of any third-party services you use.
International visitors
StateGuess is primarily focused on U.S. geography content and may be accessed from other countries. If you use the site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as we add features, advertising, analytics, or legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of StateGuess after an update means you accept the revised policy.
